Athlete Tweets of the Week
Twitter is a fun place. I like it, like to use it, and consider it a massively useful resource. There are endless avenues to pursue through Twitter, and the ability to directly connect with potentially anyone makes it a very enticing medium for all sorts of people. Of course, athletes are no different. Twitter has become a fixture in professional sports, influencing everything from player fines to trade rumors. Of course, our beloved professional athletes range greatly in intelligence, interest and tact. One mans sounding board can easily be another man’s career-ender.
So, with that in mind, I’m finally going to launch a weekly recap of our favorite athlete Tweets of the Week. You’ll catch on quickly that the criteria for a Tweet of the Week is very nebulous ; it can be humorous, serious, informative or simply a lesson in Trolling. Have a favorite athlete to follow, or a Tweet you think is worthy? Send it over for consideration! Without further ado…
TWEET OF THE WEEK: Von Wafer – A Three Part Series
Somebody is getting drilled next door it’s really really loud I think he’s hurting her
— von wafer (@vonwafer13) April 21, 2012
This guy fatigue level has too be an overall 95
— von wafer (@vonwafer13) April 21, 2012
Thank u finally time too go nite nite before jake steed starts up again

Somewhere, poor Von Wafer had to suffer through what seems to be a marathon sex session in the room next to his. Luckily for the world, Von decided that misery needs company and gave us a hilarious play-by-play on Twitter. Included in tweets are concern for fellow man, references to NBA 2k12 statistics and a discreet tip of the hat to his love of adult films. Luckily, cassanova ran out of gas just long enough for Wafer to catch some z’s. If you don’t already, follow this man.
Tony Allen
Aw man!! He on some dmx!! Stuff yall gone make me lose my mind up in here up in here” smh!! Msnbc!!
— Tony Allen (@aa000G9) April 8, 2012
Get used to this gentleman, because he will be a, if not the, mainstay of the feature. Some people just have a touch for Twitter. Their 140 characters shine brighter than ours. Tony is that guy. In this Tweet, Tony cannot control himself while watching one of those “to catch a predator” shows on MSNBC. Whatever happened on the show, Tony felt that the best way to express his disbelief to the world was through a 15 year old DMX quote. I agree.
Jeff Green
Just heard an interview with Suge Knight and he said he don’t know if 2Pac is dead…aaaahhhhh DAMN!!!
— jeff (@unclejeffgreen) April 20, 2012
Jeff got shafted out of his NBA season with the Boston Celtics due to a rare heart condition. All signs point to a full recovery and a chance to resume the NBA from Jeff, who has understandably had a lot of time to fill during the NBA season. Still, we’re not sure if perpetuating infamous conspiracy theories via Twitter is a responsible use of Mr. Green’s time. Not only is Tupac almost certainly dead, it’s not smart to take Suge Knight at his word, especially regarding Tupac. I’m no hip-hop insider but something tells me Suge was just stirring the pot around the time of the Hologram Tupac Revolution. You never know, though…
Jamal Crawford
Life.
— Jamal Crawford (@JCrossover) April 5, 2012
I like Jamal Crawford a lot. Still, this kind of Twitter post seems more appropriate for @TeenFeelings than an multi-millionaire athlete.
Garret Siler
Now playing ghettomusik by outkast. IiiiI just want u to know how I feeeeel feeling good feeling great how r u
— Garret Siler (@Big_G_21) April 7, 2012
I just enjoyed the thought of 6’11, “305″ pound Garret Siler signing and dancing to that particular part of the Outkast song, which is a slow breakdown sung by a woman.
Rio Ferdinand
Song of the afternoon: Home by Daughtry…..decent bit of soft rock!
— Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) April 21, 2012
Last and certainly not least … Rio Ferdinand blesses us with his nuanced musical opinions. Never mind that he deemed a Daughtry song “Song of the Afternoon” — he called it decent! That alone seems to be an emotional contradiction, Rio. This piece of advice will alleviate future problems like it — Daughtry sucks. Eiether way, we are on the lookout for Rio’s next music review and will be sure to pass it on as soon as it hits the presses.
